Technology

Meeting tomorrow's nutrition challenges today - requires a new approach.

At Plantae, we’re taking up that challenge with a proprietary and interdisciplinary platform. Our technology engine is powered by three state-of-the-art scientific disciplines, that are synergized to maximize their potential and impact.

OUR Approach

Plant metabolomics

We have a deep understanding of plant metabolic pathways, metabolites and the enzymes and genes responsible for them. By focusing this understanding on specific traits or phytonutrients, we are able to manipulate the genetics to create plants with unique and novel characteristics. Plantae has licensed patents on a number of genes that were discovered in the laboratory of Professor Aharoni.

OUR Approach

Genome-editing

We use advanced genome editing techniques to accelerate the natural process of evolution. These genetic modifications could be possible given millions of years of iterations. Unfortunately, humanity doesn’t have that much time before food production and health issues become drastic concerns. We use multiple types of CRISPR-based genome-editing tools that allow for highly targeted editing of plant genotypes. We have licensed unique and effective genome-editing technologies developed by Professor Levy. This technology is considered Non-GMO in the majority of countries.

Computational protein and enzyme design (CPD)

Enzyme and protein improvement requires two fundamental capabilities: accurate protein structure prediction and robust protein design.

Plantae Bioscience masters both of those capabilities.

We established the methodology for using the accurate tool of protein structure prediction developed by Deep Mind (Google company) together with the exclusively licensed protein design platform developed by Professor Fleishmann: FuncLib is an extensively validated method that designs diverse multipoint mutants in active sites of enzymes.  The resulting designs are efficient and functionally diverse, bypassing the cost-intensive steps required by high-throughput screening methods. Moreover, the new designs exhibit improvements of up to 4 orders of magnitude in several activities.

Finally, we have implemented the two cutting-edge capabilities and additional related tools on our cloud-based computational platform.
